
The pros and cons of a ‘Casablanca’ sequel
Ironically, there’s another “Casablanca” descendant who has voiced opposition to a sequel — Humphrey Bogart’s son, Stephen, who thinks it would tarnish the memory of the famous film. “There are certain films, like ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ ‘Gone with the Wind’ and, of course, ‘Casablanca,’ that need to stay as pristine and perfect as they are,” he told the NY Post in a piece about Warner’s campaign for a sequel. Harold Rosson (April 6, 1895-September 6, 1988)
Hollywood Forever, Hollywood CAFive time Oscar nominated American cinematographer. However, he is best known for his work on The Wizard of Oz, andfor being the third husband of legendary screen siren Jean Harlow.
He retired from the business in 1958, but returned in 1966 for the John Wayne film El Dorado.

“He wanted customers to walk though Dorothy’s living room when they enter ‘The Wizard of Oz’ auditorium in Woodridge, for example, so he built a replica at the door. Through it, you come to a tree that Bulthaup cut down and installed himself. Then there are witch’s legs poking out from under the building, and oodles of other Oz artifacts looking down from the walls.
“Bulthaup also reunited the original Munchkins from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on several occasions and successfully lobbied for their inclusion on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

I realize I’ve been posting a lot about this, but it really is a big deal and I’ve been so excited about it. So, thanks for putting up with me. Here’s one more, the final product of lots of hard work and fund-raising efforts by a great bunch of people. I can’t wait to see it in person!

Most surreal moment: Sitting behind Robert Baum, great-grandson of L.Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz books, and Robert’s wife Clare, watching The Wizard of Oz movie on the big screen at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre where it first debuted back in 1939. (I about peed when they turned around and started talking to us!)
